DVR manufacturer Cathexis has released the latest version of its catVision software. The powerful software suite consists of three primary components - catSite, catMap and catAlarm - that provide comprehensive, market-leading surveillance capabilities for medium to large sites, either on site or remotely.
A fourth product - catVGA - enables operators to view and control multi-camera displays on video walls by streaming images over a high-speed LAN rather than via expensive matrix hardware and associated cabling.
In its full application, catVision software provides professional central alarm monitoring for multiple clients in a multiple operator control room environment.
catSite site resource management software provides convenient 'drag-and-drop' control of all surveillance system resources including cameras, microphones, output relays and monitors independent of connectivity.
catMap enables an operator to view and control site resources directly from an interactive electronic map within the catSite interface.
catAlarm adds the centralised alarm management and client monitoring capability of a large control room, with operators responding to a prioritised alarm queue, and alarm calls, recordings and information being written to a SQL database.
catVGA is scaleable and enables operators to control camera displays on as many as four VGA monitors per server. Typical applications include control rooms with 'video walls'. The software operates with Cathexis' range of integrated surveillance systems with their choice of image compression technology, as well as its video-over-IP products and selected independent digital IP cameras.
Acam Technology distributes the Cathexis product range in the UK. The Derby-based company has recently supplied catVGA servers as part of a major CCTV installation in a large hospital on the South coast.
"We have replaced expensive matrix hardware with a solution that is a fraction of the cost," says Acam managing director, Chris West. "We have enabled the installer to provide the end user with savings totalling thousands of pounds, in addition to providing them with far greater flexibility in the monitoring of hundreds of cameras. When you think of all the installations in the country using costly, breakable hardware for multiple display switching, the move to a much cheaper, more reliable and flexible software alternative has to be a serious consideration."
