Digital CCTV solutions specialist Acam Technology has launched a compact digital video recorder (DVR) designed specifically to help public and private transport operators to fulfill their obligations regarding the safety and security both of the public and their own drivers.
The cost-effective, simple-to-operate and easy-to-install DVR is small enough to fit into the palm of a hand and can be used with up to four cameras.
The camera selection includes miniature cameras for covert applications, long-range motorised zoom cameras, wide-angle models and low light day/night cameras. The cameras are connected to the DVR via one multi-core cable and everything is controlled from one central power point.
The DVR’s built-in 120GB hard drive provides real-time recording capacity of up to one week at full-screen resolution for one camera or for up to four cameras using multiplexed images.
According to a Department of Transport survey on security and public transport, CCTV surveillance is the most favoured form of reassurance for people travelling on a bus.
A recent trial of CCTV on school buses in Leicestershire has had such an impact on the behaviour of student passengers that it is being extended for a further year.
"This recording system is ideal for monitoring behaviours and actions throughout an entire vehicle," says Acam managing director Chris West.
"As such, it is a tremendous preventative tool and evidence recorder for all kinds of transport - especially for coaches and buses used on the school run or for taxi drivers seeking a cost-effective enhancement to their own safety and security."
Further information on the transport DVR is available from Acam Technology on 01332 382555.
