CCTV solutions specialist Pennine Security Systems has upgraded the analogue system at Computacenter’s Hatfield European HQ and operations centre with a Cathexis digital recording solution.
The new system allows three months’ worth of images to be recorded from each of the seventy two cameras covering the centre at a rate of 4 images per second.
Two 24-channel and one 28-channel Cathexis Serval DVRs are each connected to a separate 10 terabyte Infortrend RAID 5 storage unit in the logistics centre’s control room, with images from any camera viewed on a single operator workstation.
Pennine Security Systems has also installed a multi-channel Serval DVR at each of five satellite Computacenter offices in Milton Keynes 1, Milton Keynes 2, London Blackfriars, Birmingham and Manchester. Images at each office are recorded locally, but the control room at Hatfield pulls data from each remote location using the Cathexis catSite suite of site monitoring software.
"The existing analogue system was cumbersome, slow and costly - entailing tape changes per sixteen cameras every six hours, across eight multiplexers," says Pennine’s Andrew Dodds. "Cathexis’ UK distributor Acam Technology helped us to build a high-quality, cost-effective recording solution that provides Computacenter with a reliable, flexible and expandable digital alternative."
With this design and support, Pennine Security Systems was able to help Computacenter minimise the costs and maximise the return on its investment.
Computacenter is Europe’s leading independent provider of IT infrastructure services. The company advises clients on IT strategy, implements the most appropriate technology from a wide range of leading vendors and manages elements of its clients’ technology infrastructures on their behalf.
At every stage, Computacenter help customers to minimise the cost and maximise the business value of their IT expenditure.
The purpose-built, award-winning logistics centre offers state of the art warehousing and configuration processes to guarantee high levels of dependable service, whilst at the same time taking cost out of the supply chain.
Commenting on the installation, Computacenter’s Group Security Manager Peter Williams says: "We’re delighted with our new CCTV solution. It saves time, cost and manpower and provides us with a highly effective recording system and greater levels of security. Pennine has done an excellent and highly professional job."
